Riverfront-East Bank

The Area:

A prominent site on the east bank of the River Usk running from Town Bridge in the North to George Street bridge in the south and directly facing the left bank district.  Alongside an existing established residential community, major land uses include Rodney Parade rugby ground which is home to the Newport Gwent Dragons and the Newport rugby teams.

Vision:

EB riverside development cgiresizeA new riverfront residential community will emerge in the City Centre on the right bank of the river. The heart of Newport will be rebalanced creating the perception of ‘Newport-on-Usk’ versus a city divided by its river. The framework of future development will extend and connect to the existing Victoria neighbourhood centred around Corporation Road. New views and connections to the river will be created and a continuous waterfront promenade will transform the eastern edge of the Usk.

Both the Rugby Club and the residential communities are now better served from the City Centre via a new pedestrian and cycle bridge directly linking the East Bank District to the heart of the Commercial Core.
