George Street Office Quarter

The Area:

The 1.9 hectares (4.6 acres) Brownfield site close to the City Centre’s George Street Bridge was acquired and cleared by Newport City Council, Welsh Assembly Government and Newport Unlimited as a new office quarter for the City providing high quality business space at the southern entrance to the City Centre.

Vision:

The aim is for the site to become a prestigious office district with iconic buildings of the highest specification to create an impressive southern gateway to the city.

Completed developments include The Bailey Development, called Usk House, 2,972 m2 (32,000 ft2) of offices opened in November 2006. In January 2007, Yell announced that it was establishing a call centre at Usk House with the creation of 250 jobs phased over four years. George Street will also be home to the regional headquarters for the Red Cross, the new Magistrates Court and a new speculative office building, the Orb, delivered through the Welsh Assembly Government’s WISP programme completed winter 2008.
