Vision:
The Newport Theatre & Arts Centre provides significant confidence for the future development along the river’s edge. It also provides a new civic venue which engages and activates the river, especially at night and on weekends.
The University has prepared a vision for Higher Education over the next 10 years which envisages doubling student numbers and developing a new campus in the City Centre. The School of Art, Media & Design; Computing and Engineering; and Business & Management are proposed to be relocated to the riverside site.

The Newport Theatre and Arts Centre and the University’s Art, Media & Design School provide a great opportunity to promote the arts and creative activity in the City Centre and engage the design and entrepreneurial media sectors. Students within the City Centre will provide increased activity at all hours of the day. Development and public realm improvements must engage students and the places they frequent. The cultural district will extend north to the Castle which will once again become a tourist destination and an important landmark for Newport.
